8 Things to love about the Huawei Watch Fit and how to WIN one this October

It’s been almost a week since I got my hands on the Huawei Watch Fit, which I wrote about after its launch. Specs and price are already in my previous post so let me share my first impressions of this new “private trainer” on your wrist and a look inside the box instead.

The Huawei Watch Fit is more affordable than the previously released Huawei Watch GT 2e but this looks more stylish than the former. What initially caught my attention is that at only Php 4,999, you can already get yourself a handy source of quick-workouts. There are 12 kinds of animated quick-workouts in this small watch so you’ll know how it looks like vs just enabling a monitor every time you exercise. However, there’s more to it than that (including 96 other workout modes) so here’s a list of the top 8 things I loved about it along with parts that I think could’ve been improved more.

INSIDE THE BOX

The box is similar with previous Huawei devices. In front, you’ll find an image of the product and at the back, you’ll find its main specs – a 1.64” AMOLED display, long battery life, 12 animated fitness courses, 96 workout modes, scientific workout guidance, full-health monitoring, built-ni GPS and 5ATM water resistance, along with some fine print.

Inside, you’ll immediately find the watch in the middle, its charger on the left, and a guide on the right. That’s it!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Because I’m already familiar with the specs of the device, it was instantly love at first sight (or use); thus, I’m listing 8 of my favorite features at the moment. I’ll be sharing a full review soon to see if I missed anything about the watch settings and features.

1. Stress monitor and breathing exercises

Knowing that you’re stressed can either (1) make you stress about being stressed, or (2) encourage you to take a quick break. It was a mix of both for me so I’m happy that this device can help me look after my mental health somehow. Suggested guided breathing exercises can also be found in the watch, although, I can’t seem to focus and follow that at the moment. Perhaps, it would be nice if it came with relaxing music or instant connection to a nice playlist to make it easier to follow.

2. 96 workout modes (and a virtual coach)

There are many forms of exercises beyond what are usually listed in smartwatches that I’ve tried before and I’m glad that Huawei was able to consider as much as they can in just a 1.64-inch display. This one already has modes for dance exercises and even winter sports! Aside from the 96 workout modes, it also has 12 animated fitness courses like Exercise at Work, Full-Body Stretch, and Ab Ripper, with 44 standard movement demonstrations so we don’t need to go to YouTube to look for 5-minute workout routines. Saves time, effort, and mobile data for video viewing!

3. Long battery life

With the battery percentage being visible from the device, it’s easy to monitor when to charge.  I’ve been using this for 5 days straight already and have only charged it for a few minutes just to take photos. It has 180mAh and is said to last for up to 10 days for typical usage, and 7 days for heavy usage.

4. Sleep tracker

At first, it was quite uncomfortable for me to go to sleep with a watch on my wrist since I’m not used to it but seeing tips on how I can improve my sleep through the Huawei Health app as I wake up just feels rewarding. I haven’t been catching enough Zs for the past few days and it’s nice to see which specific hours I get rattled so I’ll know what to do in the future.

5. SPO2 and Heart Rate tracker

For me, these two features are a must-have. It may not be 100% accurate but monitoring blood oxygen levels is also important in ensuring that we didn’t catch COVID-19. As someone who is scared to catch the virus, I ensure that my Sp)2 reading stays above 90 to 92% every day. As someone with hypertension, the heart rate tracker also works pretty well for me, too!

6. Camera and music control

As a one-man team in content creation, controlling my devices from afar is a big help! With just a few taps in the Huawei Watch, I was able to take selfies, photos, and videos from afar, adjust camera timer, and even control the music from my phone – may it be playing via loudspeaker or via a TWS device connected to my phone. Really handy!

7. Flashlight

It may be weird to say this after mentioning a lot of techie things but I really appreciate having a flashlight feature on my watch. I’m the type of person who needs to go on a bathroom break or get a glass of water in the middle of the night, so it’s helpful that I can illuminate my surroundings immediately in just a few taps.

8. Easy-to-clean bands

Lastly, the bands are easy to clean so no need to worry about having a hard time cleaning them, especially for lighter colors like Mint Green and Cantaloupe Orange. It also isn’t a dust magnet so I’m cool with it. The Huawei Watch Fit also comes in Graphite Black if you prefer a safe color, though! However, I just hope that Huawei also releases versions with interchangeable straps to make it more formal-looking for days when we need to look extra chic.
