LIST: 15 Anime recommendations to add to your binge-watch list

Hope everyone’s still safe and healthy amidst the extended community quarantine (ECQ) here in the Philippines. I know it can be a challenge to just stay at home and do nothing, but I have some recommendations that can keep you busy until ECQ is lifted – aside from ways to donate and help, of course! Since I’ve been recommending different movies and series to my friends, I thought of collating another list that can last you an entire month (or more), depending on how much time you can keep your eyes glued on mobile or laptop screens. Today’s list is focused on some of my anime recommendations.

Note: Recommendations are solely based on anime (and some manga) that I’ve watched (or read). I still have a lot on my to-watch list – like Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Demon Slayer. Just felt like this has to be shared while people still have time to focus on binge-worthy anime.

It’s quite hard to pick, but I prioritized those that involve enough action to keep you awake. Also added a super short explanation on why I loved each:

1.Boku no Hero Academia / My Hero Academia

My current obsession! Season 4 recently ended and I can’t contain my excitement for the next one so I’ll put this on top of my list. At first, I thought the plot was similar to Gakuen Alice, but Boku no Hero Academia is way better (no hate, Gakuen Alice is too “pabebe”).

2. Assassination Classroom

Another anime with a classroom setting. It’s quite empowering especially for people who believe that grades are not the sole basis of a student’s rank. Would love to have a teacher like Koro sensei (and a classmate like Karma. LOL)!

3. Nanatsu no Taizai / The Seven Deadly Sins

Although committing sins are frowned upon in real life, this anime puts the seven deadly sins under a different light. Won’t spoil, but #TeamMerlin all the way!

4. Soul Eater

People who turn into weapons? Check. Cute pairings? Check. Lots of action? Check. It has the right amount of action and humor so you’ll want to keep watching. I remember drawing this logo in my notebooks when I was in High School and not a lot of people knew where it’s from.

5. Hunter x Hunter

Thought of adding one of the OGs in this list! Hunter x Hunter is of the first few that got me hooked into anime and Japanese culture. It used to give me a Ghost Fighter-in-kid-form vibe, but I liked this better, to be honest. Also, Killua Zoldyck. <3

6. Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

Started to realize that I like plots with hitmans in it. This one has a typical loser-turns-to-cool guy development but it’s funny because Reborn (the small guy with a black hat) is the expert here. It can keep you hooked on Tsunayoshi Sawada’s journey towards the role of Mafia Boss.

7. Naruto and Naruto Shippuden

I’m pretty sure you’ve already heard of Naruto. This has enough episodes to last you an entire month, if I’m not mistaken. That’s over 500 episodes of ninja action.

8. Mirai Nikki / My Future Diary

A group of people are competing on who gets to be god’s successor. They’re all equipped with different “diaries” that can help them plan their next move. Last one to hold a diary wins! It has a cute love story, too.

9. Shingeki no Kyojin / Attack on Titan

A must-watch! Eren’s a whiny character but we’ll keep watching because of Captain Levi. That’s all that I can say. PM me if you want an online copy of the manga! <3

10. Bungou Stray Dogs

It gets interesting towards the latter part of the season. I love how it combines supernatural mystery and literary references in every episode. Osamu Dazai and Ranpo Edogawa are cuties!

11. Sword Art Online

If people can live inside an MMORPG, this would probably be the outcome. Has a cute love story and enough action to keep you awake throughout three seasons. Will forever ship Kirito and Asuna!

12. Overlord

Watched this on Netflix just last year. It’s like Sword Art Online but the main character is the only human in a world full of NPCs (non-player characters).

13. No Game, No Life

Another game-related anime! However, in this one, the main characters get transported in a world where they need to beat different groups of species through unique games. I just want to know if they can beat the game god.

14. Re: Zero

Another case of human-gets-mysteriously-transported-to-a-different-world. This anime gave me a headache (thanks to countless rewinds) but I don’t care, I’ll keep on watching until the next season comes.

15. Fate Stay Night

I love characters with magical powers! Magi-servant pairings in this anime are different from each other and it’s impossible not to like at least one of them. Who gets the Holy Grail? Secret. Just watch, it’s also on Netflix.

Tip: Look for episodes with English subtitles instead of watching the dubbed versions. It’s more fun and you’ll be able to appreciate the Japanese language more! Kissanime.ru is my go-to website, but some of these are available on Netflix, too.

Recommendations may or may not apply to your taste. If you’re looking for a specific genre, let me know so I can share something better. 😛

Hope you’ll enjoy watching these as much as I did! You can also share your anime list with me, preferably with similar themes as the ones above. For other posts featuring our latest recommendations within the Metro and beyond, follow Manila Millennial on FacebookTwitter, or Instagram.

Stay safe and healthy, everyone!

  1. Love the list! Dami ko pa hindi napanood: Soul Eater, My future diary, Bungou stray dogs, No game No life, and Fate Stay Night.
