Heart to cart: Here’s how you can donate to local, int’l organizations via Lazada

Save the whales, save the reefs, save the seas, and so on. It’s not surprising to see such calls online but often times, we’re just left with a choice to sign a petition or share the news without being able to help the organization that is trying to make an actual change in the world. Although it’s better to help in person, our small monetary donations when we’re unable to provide physical help can already go a long way!

This Christmas, and in the lead up to Lazada’s 12.12 Grand Year End Sale, Lazada formally introduces the first-ever Digital Giving platform by an eCommerce player in the Philippines. This is part of a wider LazadaForGood program, which leaves us with no more excuses to help out because donating is as easy as checking out what’s inside your cart! With this, Filipinos can add heart-to-cart as they shop online and support local communities and causes in need through direct donations on the Lazada platform.

With more than 12 million deals, customers can look forward to shopping this season while giving back to Lazada’s 11 local and international advocacy partners: Habitat for Humanity, Young Focus, Caritas Manila, MovEd, UNHCR, Hero Foundation Inc., UNICEF, WWF, Tahanan ng Pagmamahal, HOPE, and CCEF. Shoppers can support causes close to their hearts, from alleviating poverty to saving the environment to putting a roof over someone’s head.

HOW TO HEART-TO-CART:

Giving donations is now a piece of cake! Users can get the assurance that the organizations participating in LazadaForGood are legitimate groups in the Philippines. In fact, you can read about them online! Once you’ve picked a cause that you support, all you need to do is:

  1. Open your Lazada app.
  2. At the homepage, click ‘Loads, Bills, & eCoupon’ at the center of the screen.
  3. Once directed to the ‘Digital Goods’ screen, click on ‘Donation’.
  4. Choose an advocacy by clicking on the organization’s logo on the screen.
  5. Select the amount that you’d like to donate.
  6. Add to cart!
  7. Click ‘check out’ and proceed with the payment.
  8. Details about your donation will be sent via email within 24 hours, or as stated in the item that you selected.

It’s almost the same as purchasing items on the app. The only difference is that the list of organizations can be found on a separate tab.

Christmas is the season for giving, and we want to empower our customers to do just that and empower our advocacy partners in their various causes. Lazada’s 12.12 Grand Year End Sale is not only about making our wishes or our loved ones’ wishes come true, but also to make the wishes of many others in the community come true,” said Ray Alimurung, Lazada Philippines’ Chief Executive Officer. “This is the first Digital Giving platform by an eCommerce company in the Philippines. We are truly honored to partner with great organizations who share the same values, and going forward, hope to sustain this initiative by onboarding more. We believe that everyone can contribute in their own way, big or small, and we would like to do our part by providing our advocacy partners a platform to champion their causes, raise awareness, funds and resources.”

This first-ever eCommerce Digital Giving platform also ensures that people who visit the app are reminded of the new feature in order to fully support their advocacy partners. I’ve opened my app several times and I keep seeing a suggestion to adopt a panda or a dolphin. Seriously considering to give back to wildlife by 12.12!

LUNCH OF HOPE

To celebrate the spirit of Digital Giving and launch the platform, Lazada held a local event called The Lunch of Hope at Manila House in BGC. Here, the 11 advocacy partners provided information on some of the exclusive donatable items available online and how customers can purchase them to help support individuals and communities in need. The event also quizzed guests on the advocacies’ causes to help them learn more about Lazada’s partner organizations, what they advocate and champion, and how anyone can help make positive social impact in our communities. I’ve never felt this strong about helping kids’ education and in saving our wildlife.

Guests also received handwritten thank you notecards from the advocacy partners and beneficiaries. The lunch concluded with a surprise delightful performance by the Caritas Manila YSLEP Scholar choir.
