We’re only a few hours away from the official release of new kicks from a galaxy far, far away! The Empire and The Rebellion have come together for World Balance x Star Wars this October, just a few months away from the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. To hype up fans, World Balance and Star Wars teamed up for a collaboration that showcases characters from the Star Wars films, reimagined into footwear, apparel, and accessories.
Manila Millennial got invited to check out the cool sneakers before its official release on October 20, 2019 in select stores nationwide. As usual, we’re here to give you a look at the collection, plus our favorites from the set! We even got the chance to dress up as Rey at the event.
Spanning from classics to athleisure, the collection is packed with designs featuring characters like Darth Vader, Rey, R2-D2, Chewbacca, and even Stormtroopers. They’re classified into three – chunky sneakers, lifestyle sneakers, and slip-ons – all contain designs that represent the Empire and Rebellion.
CHUNKY SNEAKS
The upper portion of the shoe is made with mesh, patent leather, and suede (for Rey) with premium detailing and colorways that took inspiration from the Star Wars universe. It features the icons on the heel portion, too! The sole is made with the signature World Balance Eva midsole and bounce pad cushioning system.
Let’s start with our favorite, Rey x Imperial L (P2,699). It’s chunky but it’s probably the most feminine in the collection. This design has nude shades that complement those with blonde to brown hair (like me!).
Next in line is the Stormtrooper x Imperial M design (P2,699), which looks similar to the Rey sneakers. It has a different colorway – black and white – which can match any outfit.
R2-D2 x Imperial M (P2,699) also has the same look, but this time, it has blue accents. It’s available in a Big Kid version, which costs P2,599. R2-D2 is actually one of my favorite characters from the first few movies (along with Yoda and Chewbacca).
Let’s not forget fan-favorite Darth Vader x Imperial M (P2,699), a must-have for those who prefer black sneakers. We personally prefer the lighter ones, though!
LIFESTYLE SNEAKS + SLIP-ONS
Designed for both form and function, this part of the collection would probably be the go-to footwear for those who want comfortable and eye-catching designs that scream “I’m a Star Wars fan!” in the most subtle ways. The shoes are emblazoned with sublimated prints of iconic characters – some in-sole and others out-sole.
Our favorite from this line? The Stormtrooper x Legion M (P2,299)! It has Stormtrooper prints outside that would give any plain black and white #OOTD a bit more personality.
Next is the Chewbacca x Aeronaut (P2,299), R2-D2 x Aeronaut M (P2,299) and BB-8 x Aeronaut M (P2,299) – all of which are in plain designs with Star Wars logos by the shoelaces. Character designs are found in-sole and under the shoes!
Lastly, we have our beloved droids on slip-on shoes: BB-8 x Ion M (P2,299) and R2-D2 x Ion M (P2,299). Would love to wear one at the premiere of The Rise of Skywalker, TBH!
STAR WARS TEES AND ACCESSORIES
World Balance took the partnership to a whole new level with an exclusive shirt collection, which consists primarily of black and white designs. They also have backpacks, sling bags, caps, and socks that have Star Wars prints.
