INSPIRE|WOMEN: How Rxandy Capinpin, Levenson Rodriguez are celebrating Women’s Month through their art

Before International Women’s Month ends, two well-known personalities in the fashion industry have stepped up together with Shangri-La Plaza to further put the spotlight on inspiring women here in the Philippines. INSPIRE | WOMEN photography exhibition, which marks the 11th anniversary of fashion photographer Rxandy Capinpin, and his latest collaboration with creative clothier Levenson Rodriguez, can be viewed by the public until the end of March.

Running from March 21 to 31 at the Mid-Level East Atrium of Shangri-La Plaza, the exhibition showcases muses who have inspired the work of both Capinpin and Rodriguez, and whom they picked because of their inspiring backgrounds. Take millennial beauty queen and transgender woman Kevin Balot for example – her story of bravery in the face of adversity helped pave way for women like her to be accepted by our society.

Aside from Kevin, included in the impressive roster are successful and influential women in different fields, such as Gionna Cabrera, Jo Ann Bitagcol, Liza Ilarde, Ana Sideco, Alta Redor, Kaye Morales, Ruby Gan, DJ Lady Trinity, Eula Valdes, Lola Androgynous, Geolette Esguerra, Tessie Tomas, Nicole Asensio, Monina Tan-Santiago, and Peewee Reyes-Isidro.

“I wish they were my muses all the time,” explained Capinpin when asked about how they chose their models for the exhibit. “For example, Tessie Tomas – I watched her (all the time) in her noontime show; Eula Valdes – Amor Powers, I love them! (I’ve also) worked with the other women before.”

“When I was growing up, I looked up to them. I think they’re so amazing and they’ve achieved so much for the industry – for the Philippine Fashion Industry and it’s inspiring,” added Rodriguez.

Capinpin is well-known for conceptual photography, and has worked extensively with different publications, celebrities, and brands all over the Philippines. He currently serves as Director of Fashion Photography at the Institute of Creative Entrepreneurship, a role that long-time collaborator Rodriguez (a partner at the newest innovative school for fashion entrepreneurs) offered him.

Alongside Capinpin’s photographs and under Rodriguez’s creative direction, INSPIRE | WOMEN also presents the work of their young and gifted students, as well as course specialists from the Institute of Creative Entrepreneurship | Fashion Arts & Design (ICE). All were styled by Gee Jocson Studio with Fashion Associates Kiki Tan and Julianne Caldavores. Grooming by Abie Belisario, Poi Jakosalem, Hanna Pechon, Lei Ponce, Jacky Pante, Alexies Muyo, and Albert Muyo.

The line-up of designers include Alexandre Franco, Austeen Soriano, Card Arcita, Dianne Salamanque, Ercia Aguila, Estien Quijano, Irene Subang, Jinggay Serag, John Herrera, La Effe, Levenson Rodriguez Bespoke, Sanite Marion, Miss Keith Manila, Vanguard Uniform, and Roanne Rey.

#FeelTheShangVibe and #InspireWomenAtShang before the month ends! We celebrate with allies like them who continue to bring up women through their crafts. Happy International Women’s Day, millennials!
