8 Tips on how to make the most out of your Big Bad Wolf Manila experience

Bookworms of the Metro, unite! The much-awaited Big Bad Wolf Book Sale is back at the World Trade Center in Pasay City and you know what that means – more chances of scoring the books you want for 50% to 90% off! Happening from February 22 to March 4, 2019, Big Bad Wolf is now on its second year of keeping the love for the printing press alive. After all, the experience of holding a book in your hands can never be the same as reading a material from your phone or laptop screen.

Before you plan your trip to this book heaven, here are 8 tips that you might want to keep in mind. Everything is based on our personal experience after the VIP Day last Thursday (February 21, 2019), which was also attended by a lot of people!

1.Be extra patient!

Expect long lines at any time of the day because a lot of people are also taking their chances in scoring affordable books. There are also chances that you won’t be able to find a cart right away so it’s best to also bring an eco-bag with you as an option.

2. Make sure to eat before you visit

Food and drinks are not allowed inside the halls but you can buy some at the food stalls next to the cashier area. However, we highly recommend that you eat BEFORE shopping so your bags wouldn’t take up so much space in the food area. It can be hard to carry around your book luggage, too!

3. Check out stalls outside the halls for books as low as P50

Most of the local publications are stationed outside the halls of the World Trade Center. Here, you’ll find books between P50 – P150 that you can finish in just one sitting.

4. Visit at wee hours of the morning if you don’t like crowds

Big Bad Wolf is open for 24 hours. They restock at random hours of the day, so who knows what you’ll find at wee hours of the morning! Friends visited around 3-4 am last year and they were able to skip long lines. Don’t force yourself if you’re not a night owl, though.

5. Go to the section that you love most first to save time

There are different areas in the hall – Children’s Books, Young Adults, References, Self-Help Books, History, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Premium, Comic Books, and more. You’ll likely spend more time at the area that has the books of your liking, so it’s best to head over to that area first before you lose your energy and will to walk around.

6. Manage your expectations. Most of the books are for young adults!

My sister and I went to the book sale in search of books about history and graphic arts. There were enough options, but not as much as we hoped for. If you’re a millennial who’s already past the stage of reading novels by the likes of Rick Riordan, James Dashner, or Ransom Riggs, it might be best to manage expectations. There are other sections worth checking out, though!

7. Join Big Bad Wolf’s online contests for a chance to win a gift voucher worth P700

Every day, Big Bad Wolf will be picking lucky winners for their #IAmAtBBWManila19 and #ThisIsFromBBWManila19 online contest. All you need to do is take a creative photo of you at the book sale or an artsy photo of your book haul. Post your photo on Facebook or Instagram with the said hashtags, and make sure that your settings are on Public so organizers can see your entry! 10 winners are announced every day!

8. Get 1%, 10%, or even 100% of your money back by using PayMaya

Go cashless! Ask the staff to direct you to the PayMaya lanes at the cashier area. Using PayMaya, I was able to get P24 back from our total which was around P2000. It may not be too much, but it’s definitely something! What more if you’re lucky enough to get 100% of your cash back? It’s like getting your items for FREE or up to P1000 per transaction and a maximum of P2000 cashback during the promo period!

Part of the proceeds of the sales during Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Manila 2019 will go to Gawad Kalinga, also a partner beneficiary of PayMaya for its #PayMayaItForward program.
