ALTHEA Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser: A non-drying makeup remover and cleanser in one

I have a confession to make: When rinsing hard-to-remove makeup off my face, I used to apply baby oil. This was before I realized that baby oil can clog pores, cause acne, and contribute to premature aging. Good thing I’ve crossed paths with a product with the same consistency but has soothing and mild ingredients like that of a cleanser. I’m sure this can help you out as well, so here’s a quick review of the ALTHEA Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser, which combines the powers of a cleanser and a serum.

Although the product doesn’t come with a box or a  paper that indicates instructions and descriptions, Althea.kr’s website says that this makeup remover and cleanser in one whisks away makeup, dirt, and oil with mint extracts that ensure that the skin stays cool and hydrated. The serum-like formula contains a dual moisture cell system that prevents the skin from drying out, keeping it smooth to the touch. We’ve already tried it ourselves and we can attest to that!

INGREDIENTS + EFFECTS

Close-up on the product.

There are three special ingredients that helps Althea Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser to work wonders:

  • Mint leaf extract helps cool down and soothe tired skin
  • Jojoba seed oil prevents the skin from drying out as it removes dead skin cells
  • Tea tree leaf extract purifies the skin with its antibacterial properties

Complete Ingredients: Water, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Cyclomethicone, Isononyl Isononanoate, Dipropylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Mentha Arvensis Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Hydroxyacetophenone, Disodium Edta, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Citrate, Butylene Glycol, Fragrance

These ingredients also balance pH levels (5.5-6.5), so it’s okay to use even on sensitive skin.

APPLICATION

There are two ways to use this serum cleanser, but I prefer the first since I don’t like my face feeling too slippery after washing.

As a makeup remover:

1. Pour product onto the palm of your hand (size of a P5 coin is usually enough) or a cotton pad if the makeup that you’re removing tends to stick to the skin (this happened to me).

2.Massage the product all over your skin in circular motions until you see the makeup dissolve.

3. Rinse off the residue with water.

As a cleanser:

1.Dampen the skin and apply the product onto the palm of your hand.

2.Gently massage the serum all over your skin in circular motions for 5-10 seconds before rinsing it off with water.

REVIEW

Remember the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink lippies that I shared before? That’s the toughest lippie I know and the Althea Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser was able to remove it in ONE SWIPE,

I love using Althea Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser when removing my makeup! It’s super effective even on matte, waterproof makeup that doesn’t budge for hours. While it’s okay as a makeup remover on sensitive skin, I’m not really fond of using it purely as a cleanser since I’m not used to leaving my face feeling too slippery even after washing with water. I still wash my face with a separate soapy cleanser for comfort’s sake.

The price is quite reasonable for a 150ml product with multiple uses. I know other brands that offer almost the same thing in smaller sizes, but same price range!

While the product delivers everything that it promises, the only downside would probably be in its packaging. It’s neat, but all the instructions are in Korean. As someone who tends to forget how some of my skincare products work, I have to double check the instructions that I wrote in this blog from time to time or visit Althea.kr’s page. Quite a hassle, especially if you’re not with your phone! It would be very helpful for users if Althea can produce an English version in the packaging of their products, but while it’s not yet available, you can always visit this blog.
