Picture-perfect murals and where to find them (BGC version)

For the past few months, photos of colorful drawings on walls have been invading social media — captioned with a deep quote about life or used as a background of your friend’s #OOTD. In case you’re wondering where to find these beauties, here’s a guide around Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig where most of the murals can be found.

Woops! I used the term “murals”. Why not graffiti, I hear you asking. Here’s the thing: Murals are large paintings or words on walls and ceilings that are usually commissioned; thus, legal. Graffiti on the other hand, can be considered as illegal or a form of vandalism – something uncalled for. However, a graffiti artist can work on both.

In line with BGC’s art festival, 11 new mural sites were launched this year in addition to the first nine murals in 2015. And luckily, Art BGC was gracious enough to provide a map for our search parties in the city.

Your resident millennial recently took a stroll in High Street and came across some of them. However, since this post wasn’t originally part of my plan, I wasn’t able to take a photo of everything. Still uploading what I have (and what Bonifacio High Street’s social media page has) because some of you have been asking where to find them. Here you go:

There was a truck parked near KFK's writings on the wall! It's along B1 at Lane O.

Tip: Try to visit as early as you can on weekends so you can have a better view of murals along parking lots.

It’s nice to see pops of colors in unexpected sites of the city. With hundreds (or even thousands? I’m not so sure) of business establishments around BGC, it’s a breath of fresh air to see something lively once in a while. These murals also bring a youthful glow to the area, making the place more vibrant than it already is.

Walking tours were even done late May this year to showcase the work of various artists such as Andrew Schoultz, Hot Tea, Bunnie Reiss, Francisco Diaz, Pastelfd, Kris Abrigo, Dog & Pony, Trip63, Nate Frizzell, Aleks Kocev and Max Soto.

It pays to look down once in a while. My bad -- I wasn't able to look for the artist's signature!

I suggest you go mural-seeing when your feet are prepared for it. Wear comfy shoes because the mural sites are not as close to each other as they seem. Lane O is a treasure trove, though.

Tip: If you’re dropping by Mercato, take a good look at the wall beside it. You’ll see a huge astronaut watching over the people!

Ces the millennial says: These murals were not only meant to serve as backgrounds for OOTDs or artsy photos for your Instagram account. Do the artists a favor and read the available descriptions beside it (should there be any) or at least give them a shoutout, maybe? Let them know how much you loved their work. Pretty sure it can make them smile.

I’ll update this page with more photos once I get the chance to visit BGC on a sunny day. Feel free to share yours!
